Start Your Yoga Journey Here
This page is here to make starting yoga feel simple and reassuring. If you’re looking for beginner yoga in Weston-super-Mare, or you prefer to join online, everything is taught in a slow, accessible way.
If you’re feeling nervous, that’s more normal than you think. Maybe you imagine contorting into shapes, or you worry about not knowing the “right” way to breathe. Maybe you haven’t exercised for a while, or you’re returning after something that left you cautious about your body. I welcome all of that, gently.
Here’s what happens in your first class, in plain terms: we arrive, settle, and I guide you through a few gentle movements and breathing. I offer options the whole way so you can choose what feels comfortable. You won’t be pushed into anything, and you can rest whenever you need to. If you prefer to listen rather than be seen, that’s totally fine. Online students can keep their camera off, and in-person students are always given space.
I teach slowly, with clear cues and reminders about alignment & taking things at a pace that works for you. Nobody is graded, nobody is comparing. Most people leave feeling calmer, a bit steadier, and quietly surprised they could do more than they thought.
If you’d like, message me before your first class and tell me what you’re worried about; I’ll gently tailor the session so it’s exactly the right amount of challenge and support. You don’t need to be flexible, fit, or have done yoga before; you just need curiosity and the willingness to try.
What to Expect
- gentle, clear instruction
- options for everybody
- a calm, non-competitive space
- no pressure to “keep up” with anyone
- time to breathe, move and reconnect with yourself
Your First Class
If you’re completely new to yoga, I recommend starting with Beginning Again.
This four-week course has been created specifically for beginners and anyone returning to practice after time away. You’ll be guided through the foundations of yoga at a gentle pace, with plenty of time to ask questions, build confidence and discover what works for your body.
Once you’ve completed the course, you’ll have a solid foundation and feel much more comfortable joining the weekly classes.

Frequently Asked Questions
I’ve never done yoga before. Can I still join? Yes. You don’t need any previous experience to begin. The focus isn’t on getting everything “right”, but on learning to listen to yourself, explore the practice with curiosity, and work at a pace that feels right for you.
Do I need to be flexible? Not at all. Yoga isn’t about how flexible you are. It’s about learning to understand your body, respect its limitations, and work with it rather than against it. Any increase in flexibility is simply a by-product of a regular practice, not the measure of a successful one.
Do I need to buy expensive yoga clothes? Wear anything comfortable that allows you to move freely. There’s no need for special yoga clothing. We usually practise barefoot for better grip and stability, but the most important thing is that you feel comfortable.
What do I need for online sessions? A mat or a blanket, a device with Zoom to be able to tune into the live feed, and enough space to stretch your arms. (Although some students practice with less space and still make it work!)
I have a health condition. Can I still practice? In many cases, yes. Yoga can often be adapted to suit a wide range of health conditions, injuries and individual needs. My teaching is centred around helping people work with their bodies rather than against them, and I’ll always encourage you to practise at a pace that feels right for you.
Some people may benefit from additional adaptations or one-to-one support before joining a group class, particularly if they have more complex health needs. If you’re unsure whether a class is suitable, please get in touch. I’m always happy to discuss your circumstances and help you find the most appropriate option.
Do I need to be fit or strong?
No. You don’t need to be fit, flexible or strong to begin. My classes are about learning to work with your body, not pushing it beyond its limits. You’ll be encouraged to move at your own pace, with options and adaptations offered throughout.
Is yoga only about exercise?
No. While movement is part of yoga, it’s only one aspect of the practice. Yoga also helps us develop awareness, self-compassion and practical skills that support us through the challenges of everyday life, both on and off the mat.
What if I can’t do a pose correctly?
That’s absolutely okay. While each posture has a purpose, yoga isn’t about performing the “perfect” pose. What’s often more important is how we practise: where we place our attention, how we breathe, and how we respond to what we’re experiencing. Variations and adaptations are always offered, so you can work with your body rather than against it.
Can I stop if I feel uncomfortable?
Of course. There is never any expectation to push through discomfort. You’re always encouraged to pause, rest or adapt the practice. One of the most valuable skills yoga can teach us is learning to listen to our bodies and respond to what we need.
